Navigating My Creative Block

Somewhere a few months ago I hit a creative block. It’s sort of like writers block but, it applies to more than just writing. So I went into hiding…kind of. I still remained semi-active on my Instagram page but my blog and twitter got no love. I missed uploading on my site so I became determined to get over this creative block and to get back to creating and uploading. I have made a lot of lifestyle changes over the past few months and I think they have really helped me to feel more inspired. Keep reading below to find out what I did to get my [creative] groove back.  Let me just throw it out there that I have never been a… View Full Post

Black Mental Health: Let’s Talk About It

It is World Mental Health Week so I decided to write a post about it. Recently I have noticed that mental illness is becoming more prevalent in the media. TV shows such as Shameless, Empire, Teen Mom OG, and Teen Mom 2 all currently feature story lines of persons living with mental illness. This isn’t new, just more common. I can remember as far back as the TV show Girlfriends having the story ling of Lynn’s mom having Bipolar Disorder. Actresses and Artists are also coming forward to talk about their own experiences with mental illness. Demi Lovato, Kristen Bell, Kehlani, Kid Cudi, Zoë Kravitz, and one of my favorite TV moms, Jennifer Lewis, have all come forward to discuss their battles with mental illness.… View Full Post

Twenty Six and a Half

Today is May 23, 2016. It is my half birthday. I know some people may not believe in half birthdays and that’s fine. You don’t have to. But I do. I like to look at today as a checkpoint for my life. I don’t make “New Years” resolutions, rather I make goals for myself each year on my birthday that I want to accomplish for the next year of my life. Today is a great day to sit down and think about the things that I still have not accomplished and to figure out how to accomplish them or if I even want to accomplish them. It is also a day for realization. In six months I will be twenty seven. That… View Full Post

Make Time to Smell the Cherry Blossoms

Let me start by saying that I know that Cherry Blossoms don’t grow everywhere. Here in DC they are in bloom but regardless of where you live I want you to start making more time to stop and smell the flowers. This doesn’t have to literally mean smelling flowers. I know some people have allergies and some people just don’t like flowers, which is okay. I have some alternatives for you. The main point of this blog is to take time out of your day for yourself. We live in a society where being busy and making moves is what we are told that we should be doing. Our days are filled with nonstop working. It could be working around the house,… View Full Post

No Place Like Home

I always say, “Home is where the heart is” because growing up as a military child I never had one specific “home”. My home was always wherever my family was. Last week I was on spring break so I flew to Florida to visit my parents. It was the first time I had seen them (in person) for almost a year and a half and it was my girlfriends first time seeing their house. While I did not grow up in that house, it always feels like home when I visit and I think that is largely due to my parents. We spent about 4 days total there and it was just what I needed to recharge my batteries. I am a homebody… View Full Post
